My New Painting

I started a new painting today based on Dali's artwork 'Dream Caused By the Flight of a Bee around a Pomegranate, One Second Before Awakening'. In this painting, there is a woman sunbathing naked on the edge of a cliff. In the background there is an elephant with very long and skinny legs like a pond skater. Hovering above the ocean there is a pomegranate with a goldfish bursting out of it. Out of the fish's mouth leaps a tiger and another tiger jumps out of his mouth. A bayonet presumably has come from the second tiger's mouth. The spear on the weapon is about the pierce the woman's arm.
This has always been one of my favourite paintings because I love the powerfulness of the pouncing tigers. I also like the way Dali has used the objects to symbolise a bee sting - black and yellow stripes of the tiger and a bayonet for the sting. To me, the overall meaning of this painting is that we sometimes have dramatic dreams because of anxiety in reality and in our subconscious. The dream will be exaggerated, just like the bigger objects used in the painting to represent a bee sting.
In my painting, I have kept the blue and peach sky, ocean view and the leaping objects apart from the weapon. The elephant has been replaced with a Beatle car, and the foreground now features me sat on a bed of sunflowers

Finished 'Self Portrait 2008'

This is my first proper painting since 'Jake' (2005). I am quite pleased with it. I copied a photograph. The background was originally a purple and pink pattern, but I decided I didn't like it so painted over it.

(Acrylic on canvas).
